Race Day 2012 Recap

Results are here: 6 & Under • Age 7-12 • 5 mile race (or scroll down).

Thank you runners, volunteers, and supporters for coming together for a wonderful day at Muscoot Farm! Remember — the Muscoot Farmer’s market has one more weekend (10/28) before shutting down until May 2013.

We had a record number of 279 kids finishers at Kids Run The Farm. Congratulations to all participants! Gabriel Roland (5:18*) and Sophie Davis (5:26*) won in the 6 & under race. Casey Wolff (7:33) and Albertine Neal (7:48*) won the age 7-12 race. Three new overall course records and ten age group records were set for the kids course on Sunday in near perfect running conditions.

In a strong field of 424 finishers, Gerry Sullivan of White Plains three-peated as overall winner of the 5 mile race in a time of 32:14. Ann MacDonald of Mount Kisco won her first Run The Farm race with a time of 38:17. Ann and Gerry are both two-time winners of the Leatherman’s Loop.

We had two runners (that we know of) registered and finishing both the kids race and the 5 miler to get the first ever “6 mile” awards: Eamonn Sullivan and Nicholas Petrella. Congrats to both boys on a great running day!

Thanks to Sue Moga and the fantastic staff at Muscoot Farm for making it a pleasure for all of us to come visit for the day (and come back again and again!). Thanks also to the volunteers from the Somers VFD Ambulance Corps who helped take care of several runners in distress.

The winner of the Farm Bucks challenge was Dutch Desserts in the Muscoot Farmer’s Market. They were the most popular recipient of Farm Bucks from the day’s races after we cashed out the farm bucks for real cash. Hummingbird Ranch and Hudson Milk Company were a close second and third.

Check out lots of photos from the day at our photo website here: http://leathermansloop.smugmug.com/RunTheFarm/2012 (still uploading as of 9am monday!).

Vendors at Muscoot Farm Eagerly Await Upcoming Race

The Muscoot Farm vendors are looking forward to Run The Farm in two weeks! Most are returning from prior years and are getting ready for the early morning start. The few new vendors have heard from the others about the big day.

For those new to Run The Farm, one of the reasons we put on the race is to increase awareness of the Muscoot Farmer’s Market and other local farmer’s markets. To help get all of the runners to take a stroll through the market after the race, we hand out $2 and $5 “Farm Bucks” at the finish line of the kids race and 5 mile race, respectively.  Runners can use these like real cash on the day of the race. At the end of the day, race organizers visit each vendor and exchange the farm bucks for real US currency. The farmers like it since they get a huge surge in foot traffic after each race. The runners like it since they get to try some of the great offerings of the market vendors — and possibly come back for more!

To give you all a preview, we visited the market today and took photos of many of the vendors there. Check them out below the photo using the “Continue Reading..” link.

Animals at Farm Gearing Up For Run The Farm Races

It’s not only the runners who must wake up early on race morning — the farm animals also have to get up on and get going on the early side.

A typical day sees the horses and cows crossing through the farmyard right around 8:30am. This happens to be the start time of the kids race — on the same trails! Fortunately, the farmers and the animals have agreed to bump up their schedule. By the time the races start they will be all set with some of the best seats in the house to watch the races.

Here are some photos of some of the many farm animals you will see at Muscoot. Click on the photo to see photo gallery. See you at the farm!
